NDSU Bison Strides

Wednesday, 24 Apr 2024

There’s no doubt that our four-legged friends bring so much joy to our lives. NDSU Bison Strides is bringing to light the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits brought about through partnerships between horses and individuals with physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.

Bison Strides took third place in fundraising for the Small Budget category, making this their most successful Giving Hearts Day to date. Their efforts became focused on spreading the word about equine-assisted services and community volunteer opportunities they provide.

Miniature Horse Tour

On Giving Hearts Day, they were able to bring the joy around town with two of their veteran program participants, Doug Climan and Drew Weinzierl, accompanied by Bison Strides’ four miniature horses; Tony, Spark, Zipper, and Buttons. They took the miniature horse tour to NDSU’s Motor Pool and Animal Sciences Department, Dakota Medical Foundation, Jordahl Custom Homes, Beyond Boundaries Therapy Services, Bonanzaville, and the University of Jamestown Physical Therapy program.

Fundraising on Giving Hearts Day allows Bison Strides to sustain the life-changing services they offer, support their equine partners, provide financial assistance to participants, and provide continuing education for staff and NDSU students involved in the program. Additionally, they will be able to grow their horse herd so that even more individuals can participate.

Without Bison Strides, individuals with disabilities in our community would not experience the life-changing strength, resiliency, and independence they gain by partnering with horses.
